Stem
Botanical line at the edges; clear reading in the centre.

The story
Let the edge carry the line
A line can guide a page without surrounding every object. Stem begins with that possibility. A curved divider can turn one reading section into the next; an elongated frame can give a specimen a clear place; a small botanical gesture can establish a family resemblance across a collection. The centre of the page stays quiet. A visitor should not have to read through foliage, solve an ornamental border, or discover that the most beautiful shape is also the only label for an action.
The Victoria and Albert Museum presents Art Nouveau as an international style with substantial regional differences. Flowing organic lines are part of that account, but so are geometry, structure, asymmetry and disciplined composition. Stem does not reduce that history to one famous poster artist or one muted palette. Its point of departure is the tension between a living line and a useful frame. The proposed colours and interface rules are our interpretation, not colours or rules assigned to the entire historical movement.
Keep the useful parts plain
The proposed display pairing is Cormorant Garamond with Source Sans 3 for body text and practical controls. The serif can give a short heading character without turning a form into a decorative specimen. Labels keep normal readable spacing. A filter still needs to make its selected state obvious. An arch-shaped image frame is allowed to be expressive; a dialog's close action is not allowed to become difficult to locate. Ornament should never obscure what belongs to the page and what belongs to the interaction.
Stem is planned around a small exhibition vocabulary: an arch card, a stem divider, a botanical filter, chapter navigation and a clear specimen caption. Each has a purpose beyond looking floral. A collection might need to distinguish a plant's name from the date of a photograph, or a work's title from the museum's note about it. Those distinctions should be present in real text and a sensible reading order. They cannot be left inside a picture of a label or conveyed only by changes of colour.
Grow something original
The botanical assets will be original drawings, not traced Mucha arrangements, Tiffany motifs or details lifted from a modern estate's reproduction. Stem does not require figures, sacred halos or cultural shorthand to explain its visual direction. The museum sources are references for learning, not a licence to turn collection photographs into a commercial ornament library. Before release, the exact assets and their permissions will be recorded alongside the usable components, rather than hidden behind a general claim that old art is free.
The likely uses are cultural publishing, plant collections, exhibitions and small seasonal catalogs. A dense operational dashboard is a poor place to spend this much attention on edge rhythm. Stem should also remain recognisable when its most decorative frame is removed. If its identity depends entirely on an illustration surrounding a default button, it is not yet a system. The same practical test applies to the dark palette: it needs readable text and boundaries, not simply a more atmospheric greenhouse at night.
Stem is a draft and is not available to buy or install as a complete pack. The proposed components, stories and artwork explain the direction; they are not a completed product inventory. Check back if you want an availability notice when there is something concrete to inspect. There is no release date or price announced, and checking back creates no purchase commitment.
