Gilt
Machine-age precision for a considered occasion, not simulated luxury.

The story
Draw the frame before adding the shine
A carefully framed programme can feel considered before it says a word about luxury. Gilt starts with alignment, measured intervals and a clear place for the name of the occasion. Its stepped edge is a compositional device, not a rendering of an expensive material. The light palette uses an ochre action colour against ivory. The dark palette permits a lighter flat accent against a deep ground. Neither asks a browser to simulate gold leaf in order to make an ordinary reservation control feel important.
The Victoria and Albert Museum's Art Deco collection describes a style that joined geometry, skilled making, industrial production and international modernity. Its account of global influences also shows why the familiar label is not a neutral box of reusable motifs. Design drew on many places and histories, sometimes through an exoticising gaze. Gilt takes a narrow formal lesson: repeated steps, strong vertical rhythm and a considered relationship between ornament and useful structure. It does not take a ready-made cultural pattern or an implied permission to use it.
An occasion still needs clear information
The proposed system is for venue pages, cultural programmes and carefully edited object sales. A visitor needs to distinguish a title, a time, a place, a selection and the conditions attached to it. A marquee heading can introduce the event; a programme list can make the sequence easy to scan; a reservation panel can keep choices and confirmation separate. Symmetry may give a cover its character, but it must not force every practical decision into a centered column of small text.
Josefin Sans is proposed for display and Source Sans 3 for body and controls. They are open-licensed choices rather than attempts to distribute an historic proprietary face. Spaced capitals are restricted to short labels. A double rule has a measured gap, and a frame is kept away from the text it surrounds. Buttons have one obvious action colour. The system is not permitted to rely on low-contrast gold lettering, shimmer, a glowing border or a moving sunburst to announce that something can be clicked.
Be specific about what is not borrowed
Gilt will not reproduce a Lalique object, a Ruhlmann interior, a transport identity or a familiar hotel mark. It will not assemble hieroglyphs, scarabs, masks and generalized sacred shapes into an ornamental bundle. The original asset set is intentionally more abstract: stepped frames, plain fan-like divisions and rules with useful spaces for real text. This narrower vocabulary leaves room for a buyer's own identity and avoids claiming that a broad history belongs to a single contemporary product.
There is already no shortage of dark, gold-accented premium themes. Gilt has to justify itself through the coherence of its programme, selection and reservation patterns, and through original assets that do more than decorate a landing page. The same standard applies to failure states. A beautifully framed error still needs to say what happened and what the visitor can do next. A disabled purchase action is not made acceptable by a formal heading or a rich background. Clear availability is part of the design.
Gilt is currently a draft, not a released design system. Its plates and component plans show what is being considered, not what is already licensed for delivery. No price, launch date, reservation or purchase is promised by checking back, and nothing here represents an estate or museum endorsement.
